Home renovations are for people who are committed to staying in their current home but are finding there are aspects that need to change. Georgian Custom Renovations can take you from concept through execution.
Why renovate your home?
Home renovations are for people who are committed to staying in their current home but are finding there are aspects that need to change. These could range from dated interior decoration, the need to re-design rooms to fit new uses like an unfinished basement into a games room, or re-modeling a kitchen with more flexible layout. Making the changes a reality can come with challenges that might not be apparent at first. Georgian’s staff of professionals can help by identifying issues whether structural or legal (in terms of building permits required), determining the scope of the work involved, help setting a realistic budget and finally executing the work required to bring your vision to completion.
What are the steps to a renovation?
Doing a home renovation has a set of steps that Georgian’s professionals can take you through to keep the renovation within your budget and meet your expectations. These steps are:
Initial consultation
The first step is a 1-2 hour free consultation with one of Georgian’s designers at your home. This is basically a conversation to figure out what your goals are with the home renovation and to see if there’s a good fit with Georgian’s capabilities and your budget. At the end of the meeting you can decide to go ahead by signing off on the renovation agreement and making the first payment that lets Georgian’s team start planning.
Design development
As part of this Georgian’s professionals will do a visual home inspection to look for things that might present challenges during the renovation, and ideally, see if they can be handled before work begins. At the same time, Georgian’s designers will be working on preliminary drawings of how the renovation will look. These will then be presented and a review of the budget will be done. At this point a second payment is made and it’s off to start picking the finishes that will make your renovation your own.
The next step is to pick the finishes that will make for a look that will compliment and distinguish any home and your designer will help keep within budget. Georgian has a showroom at Improve Canada that features over 400 construction and design related businesses in Vaughan where you can see some of the finishes available.
Once the final drawings are ready, the designer will schedule a meeting to present them. This will include an electrical plan, mill-work elevations, finalized scope of work and detailed finishing schedule. On approval of the plan, Georgian will proceed to price the project in order to provide the you with a fixed-price construction agreement that, on signing, means that the actual renovation can begin following your schedule.
The Construction Phase
Depending on the size of the renovation, this might even take several weeks of work. However Georgian will work to minimize disruptions and the site manager will keep you up to date on progress, also the area will be cleaned daily. On completion, Georgian will have the rooms affected by construction cleaned as well as interior ducts, and the designer will arrange to have the new space photographed.
The final step will be your inspection to make sure Georgian’s work has met your expectations. At this time the final payment will be required and your 5 year warranty with Georgian will commence.
